The Zones of Regulation at Whingate
At Whingate Primary School, we recognise the importance of promoting positive mental health to our children and families. We aim to create a culture which promotes an awareness of wellbeing; open discussions; and strategies to help our students effectively regulate their emotions.
By implementing the Zones of Regulation curriculum we aim to teach our students to identify emotions in themselves and others and provide them with a ‘Toolbox’ of strategies to help them regulate their emotions, and ultimately improve their wellbeing.
The Zones of Regulation helps students to identify their feelings and emotions through colours:
Green: ready to learn, happy, calm. (this is our ‘expected’ zone in school in order for children make progress and achieve their potential)
Red: angry, frustrated, mad.
Yellow, anxious, excited, loss of control
Blue: sad, sick, tired.
The Zones of Regulation helps children to recognise their own triggers, learn to read facial expressions, develop problem-solving skills, and become more attuned to how their actions affect other people.
If this is a tool you think you would be interested in implementing at home please contact your child's class teacher or Mrs Cooper for any resources you feel you may benefit from having at home.
