    Welcome to Year 1

    In Year 1 we learn and play together with Mrs Harrison, Mrs Kellman and Miss Smith.

    Our super teaching assistants are:

    • Miss Boyes (HLTA)

    • Mrs Sunderland (1-1)

    We are always happy to help and you will find us on the door before or after school every day!

    Key Information

    Uniform

    • Please check that your child has the correct uniform, including pumps, in line with our uniform policy. 
    • Please also ensure that all items of clothing, including pumps, PE kits and uniform are clearly labelled with your child's name. 

    Bookbags

    Please ensure that your child has their book bag at school every Wednesday. This will enable us to access their reading books and records and issue a new book. We now only change book bags on Wednesdays, so please try to bring them on the correct day.  Book bags will go home on a Friday.

    PE

    Children will need to come in P.E kit on Monday and Thursday (1HS) or Friday (1K).

    Indoor P.E every Monday.

    Your child will need to wear:

    • Navy/ black shorts
    • Plain white t-shirt
    • Velcro trainers

    Outdoor P.E is every Thursday (1HS) or Friday (1K).

    Your child will need to wear:

    • Plain track suit bottoms (black or navy)
    • Plain hooded top/ track suit op (black or navy)
    • Velcro trainers and socks

    Homework

    In Year 1, your child will be expected to complete reading, maths and spelling homework every week:

    Reading - Reading books will be changed every Wednesday. All children will bring home a reading book with sounds they have been learning in phonics that week. Children will bring home a book every Friday and should read over the weekend before returning on Wednesday. Children will be familiar with the sounds in the book so should be encouraged to read with increasing speed.

    Maths - Your child will have a bingo sheet to complete for the whole half term. 

    Spelling - Children will be set weekly Spelling Shed homework which they can complete by using their own unique spelling login found in the front of their reading log.
