Sports

As part of the local 'School Sports Partnership' we take part in lots of inter-school events, as well as working hard to improve our sporting skills within school.

Here you can find out about some of our sporting activities.

Some of our Year 5 and 6 children took part in the Leeds West Tag Rugby event, organised by the Leeds Rugby Foundation and the Leeds West cluster. The event was held at West Leeds Rugby Club and took place over an unusually dry and sunny afternoon. The team were in a pool of 6 teams and, despite never playing tag rugby as a team, they won 2 games, drew 1 game and lost 2 games. We made it to the 4th placed teams play off and ended up finishing 7th overall. As always, the Whingate team showed a wonderful team spirit and gamesmanship, as well as demonstrating some very impressive rugby skills.

Brownlee Triathlon Event

Children from Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to take part in the first Brownlee Triathlon Event at John Charles Centre for Sport. Each child completed a swim around the indoor pool before quickly selecting a bike and completing a lap of the 400m outdoor track. After the cycling, they then found the energy to run 400m before crossing the finish line in style! At every point, the children were cheered on and encouraged by Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee. Each child received a medal and they even managed to get them signed by Jonathan Brownlee. A fantastic experience for everyone involved and a great start to the calendar of sporting events this year.
